EMERGENCY INFORMATION
Occasionally, orthodontic emergencies happen. Call the office at (847) 823-3141 with any concerns you have. If the office is closed and you have an extreme emergency, you may leave a voice message at (847) 602-2506 and you will receive a return phone call from Dr. Gartner.
You may be able to solve many braces problems temporarily until you can schedule a repair appointment. These problems need not cause you discomfort or delay in your treatment.
PROBLEMS?.....................NO PROBLEM!
LOOSE BAND OR BRACKET
If a band or bracket is still attached to the wire, leave it in place. If the band or bracket is uncomfortable, place wax on it. If it comes out completely, wrap the brace or bracket in a tissue and bring it with you to your next appointment.
LOOSE WIRE
Try to place the wire back in place with tweezers. If
this is not possible, clip the wire with fingernail clippers behind the last tooth to which it is securely fastened. If there is any discomfort, place wax on the end of the wire, and inform the office.
POKING WIRE
Try to push the sticking wire down with a spoon or eraser. If this is not possible, place wax on it, and
inform the office of the problem.
LOST WIRE TIE OR ELASTIC TIE
Notify us at next appointment.
SORENESS
Use warm saltwater rinses and/or Tylenol.
HEADGEAR DOES NOT FIT
Sometimes this is caused by not wearing headgear as prescribed. If the facebow is bent, call the office at
once.
LOOSE OR BROKEN APPLIANCE
If the appliance is sticking or poking, place wax on it.
Report the problem immediately so repair time is allowed during the next appointment.
IF YOU FEEL YOU ARE UNABLE TO HANDLE A PROBLEM ON YOUR OWN, PLEASE CALL US.
