DR. GARTNER'S SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

History:
Dr. Gartner values higher education and likes to encourage and support the efforts of high school students. Initiated in 1993, The Scholarship Contest was adapted from a contest offered by a dentist friend of Dr. Gartner. The contest has been a great success! Two scholarship winners are awarded $ 1000 each for writing a one-page essay on an assigned topic related to their orthodontic experience. The title is changed each year.

The instructions and an application are made available in February, and an April deadline is given for the submission of the essay. Winners are determined by a committee of staff members who evaluate the essays without knowledge of who the authors are.

Who may apply?
Any of Dr. Gartner's patients who are high school seniors with plans to continue their educations may apply. Seniors may be in any stage of treatment (active, retention or dismissed) with any post high school educational plans such as trade school, a 2-year certificate program, or a 4-year college degree program.

How are winners notified?
All participants are congratulated in writing by mid-May, with two getting the nod as recipients of the awards.

How can I get an application?

Instructions and applications are available mid-February each year in area high school counseling offices. Copies are available at Dr. Gartner's office, and may also be downloaded from this website.
